Thames Water Utilities Ltd. is a private utility company responsible for the public water supply and wastewater treatment for the densely populated London, United Kingdom area. Mogden Sewage Treatment Works is one of five Thames Water facilities in this area currently working on modifying digesters to uphold stricter treatment standards enforced by the Environment Agency. Mogden has added new odor monitors around these areas, all of which use the industry-leading Jerome hydrogen sulfide gas analyzers linked to the SCADA network. Arizona Instrument LLC in partnership with the United Kingdom ABLE distributors supplied 8 Jerome 631-XE analyzers used to expand their current number of monitors from five existing boundary monitors to 13, all of which are located in strategic positions around their site.
The Jerome low-level detection range of hydrogen sulfide analyzers reliably offers the resolution and accuracy to measure the concentration of hydrogen sulfide to meet the stringent trigger levels set out in the site’s odor management plan.
All 13 odor monitoring systems consist of an IP67 enclosure housing a Jerome hydrogen sulfide analyzer with an air sampling inlet pipe, a thermostatically controlled enclosure heater to maintain the temperature in cold weather and an internal power supply. Each analyzer samples the ambient air every five minutes and transmits a 4-20mA analogue signal to the site’s SCADA system. Alarm notifications within the instrument can also be adjusted to notify the user of levels exceeding a certain threshold. Should any measurement exceed the strict 15ppb limit as described by the UK Environment Agency, the central control room within Modgen Sewage Treatment Works can detect this alarm and respond accordingly. Thus investigations can be carried out quickly in targeted locations.
While some hydrogen sulfide analyzers suffer from cross interference induced errors relating to the presence of sulfur dioxide, water, carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide, the rugged Jerome with its patented gold film sensor, offers a very high specificity to hydrogen sulfide enabling accurate readings down to 3ppb with a resolution of 1ppb. Designed originally with an integral rechargeable battery pack as a portable unit for immediate detection and measurement, the Jerome 631-XE offers an optional data logging module for unattended sampling as well as 4-20mA or 0-2V analogue outputs.
The latest Jerome Hydrogen Sulfide analyzer is the J605 which features a longer life battery, on-board data logging and USB communication, as well as being easier to use and maintain.
Arizona Instrument LLC offers over-the-phone training, timely instrument calibration and repair, as well extensive warranty packages to ensure the longevity of your product.
