For many attending the Water & Wastewater Equipment, Treatment & Transport (WWETT) Show, the first day (Education Day) is sometimes the most important.

“I’m getting credits for my certifications,” says Todd Alvin, of Champaign, Illinois, who had his day lined up with courses with a vacuum excavation theme. “It’s a great way to get as many credits as you can without having to pay a fortune to get these at other places.”

Alvin was joined by thousands of other attendees doing the exact same thing on Wednesday and will continue to do that today and Friday at the show.

“The company I work for sends a few guys down every year for the education stuff,” says Ian Nuerke, of Boise, Idaho, who was attending various sessions on a wide-range of topics. “But we also look forward to the expo hall opening too.”

The expo hall at the Indiana Convention Center opens at 9 a.m. today, giving attendees a chance the see the latest in technology to help them in their jobs.

“I’m going to be looking at the hydroexcavation machines, first of all,” Alvin says. “But I’m also going to check out some locating equipment because we want to upgrade our current equipment.”

Nuerke had his list of 20-plus companies he wanted to check on a notebook app on his phone and had hoped to knock off 10 of those companies from his list today. “It’s going to be a long but good day.”

Here are more highlights coming up today at the show:

  • Demonstrations throughout the show from exhibitors such as Perma-Liner Industries, HammerHead Trenchless Equipment and MaxLiner USA. There are several others taking place throughout the day at the show.
  • Day two of education starting at 8 a.m. and running through 5 p.m.
  • Day two of the WWETT Kickoff Party from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The WWETT Show runs through Saturday with the expo hall being open until 5 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
