Product spotlight dig pig silencer

Strong, durable nozzles are crucial for hydroexcavation because they ensure efficient and reliable soil removal, protect equipment and extend the lifespan of the hydroexcavation system. The Silencer from Dig Pig Products reflects years of hands-on experience and direct input from operators in the field. According to Josh Joiner, product assurance manager for Dig Pig, it is designed to solve real problems, minimize downtime and reduce overall operating costs by maximizing durability and ease of maintenance.

“It was born out of real-world frustration — operators and hydrovac professionals who had enough of nozzles that couldn’t handle tough conditions, couldn’t be repaired on site, and couldn’t keep pace with the demands of the job,” says Joiner. “Recognizing the gap between what was available and what was needed, we set out to create a nozzle that would not only survive but thrive in the harshest environments.”

It has been pressure-tested up to 6,600 psi — well beyond its rated working pressure of 4,200 psi — proving its toughness and reliability under extreme conditions. Its components are built to last and are fully serviceable in the field, meaning you don’t have to throw away expensive parts when they wear out.

“Every element of The Silencer is replaceable and rebuildable — a deliberate choice to provide exceptional longevity and cost savings,” says Joiner. “Instead of buying a new nozzle when parts fail, operators can easily service their existing tools, minimizing downtime and expense.”

Its precision-machined, high-visibility polymer cover protects critical components longer than molded plastics, and is replaceable to extend the nozzle’s working life even further. A 303 stainless steel inlet and body offers superior corrosion resistance and toughness to withstand harsh job site conditions. It includes a reinforced rotor system with tungsten carbide tips and seats. Its 0-degree nozzle in a powerful rotating 10-degree cone provides faster digging times and better efficiency. In addition, every nozzle is uniquely serialized, enabling asset management and quality control for fleet operators. It’s designed to handle up to 200-degree F hot water, allowing faster digs in frozen ground and solid clays, and can operate safely at pressures up to 4,000 psi.

“The Silencer shines particularly in municipal water and wastewater work and is well suited for all hydrovac applications,” says Joiner. “Available in 4- to 12-inch orifice sizes, it offers versatility for virtually any ground condition and project scope.”
