Problem: Due to rapid urbanization, Bear Creek Water Association, Mississippi’s largest rural water association, faced increasing challenges in maintaining and repairing underground waterlines. Traditional excavation methods using backhoe loaders and mini excavators could damage other buried utilities, including electrical and fiber optic lines. The dense network of underground infrastructure demanded a more precise approach to excavation.
Solution: CWA implemented a Vermeer VX50 vacuum excavator with a 4-inch suction hose, 1,025 cfm blower and 500-gallon debris tank. The equipment’s precision and control made it ideal for navigating the complex network of underground utilities throughout their service territory.
Result: The VX50 vacuum excavator helped minimize the size of repair areas and maintained cleaner work sites. “These machines are not limited to HDD contractors; anyone involved in digging around utilities can benefit from having a vacuum excavator in their fleet,” says Nolan Williamson, BCWA’s general manager. The vacuum excavator proved so valuable that BCWA was able to assist neighboring municipalities during water system emergencies. 888-837-6337; www.vermeer.com
