Designed specifically for operators running all-terrain rigs in challenging ground conditions, the Tornado combines proven mud motor technology with modern design enhancements aimed at maximizing steering control, durability and overall drilling performance. Featuring a 2-degree near-bit bend housing, it is engineered to deliver responsive steering and tighter correction capability while maintaining the rugged reliability operators expect in rock drilling applications. Available in both the F3 and F4 configurations, the Tornado lineup is tailored for a wide range of all-terrain rigs including AT30, AT32, AT40, AT60, D23x30DR and D40x55DR platforms.
“Like a traditional mud motor, the Tornado was designed for projects where contractors need better steerability and cutting performance in difficult soil, rock or mixed ground conditions,” says Ross.
The Tornado series incorporates several key features designed to improve both performance and service life. A double roll-pin secure sonde housing door helps increase reliability in harsh drilling conditions while precision-machined spacers accommodate both 15- and 19-inch DCI electronics. Additional enhancements include a hard-faced kick pad for improved steering response and durability as well as an optional stabilizer configuration that helps reduce wear and improve wellbore geometry in high-flow drilling scenarios.
“With over 30 years of experience in designing traditional mud motors, our engineering team used many similar concepts to develop the most durable, longest lasting dual-rod motor on the HDD market,” says Ross. “After 18 months of field testing and learning a few lessons, we were finally ready to bring the Tornado to the market.
